Carnegie Slate Camps are in-person trainings that are held twice a year ahead of Carnegie Conference and Technolutions' Slate Summit. Each Slate Camp will cover key modules used within Slate, based on the specific theme of that event. During the program, you can expect to develop a solid foundation and understanding of each topic through the execution of trainings and workshops. More information on our June 2026 Slate Camp in Nashville will be posted before the end of February.

Date: Thursday, March 26, 2026 Time: 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm Eastern Time Location: Virtual Level: Beginner to Intermediate
This is your true 101 of querying using configurable joins in Slate. Part one of a four-part series in 2026, this session's approach will focus on building foundational query understanding in Slate. We'll begin by defining queries in Slate, navigating the module, and getting settled with some initial configurations. From there, we'll explore direct exports and filters, query settings, and other parts of Slate that queries touch (hint: there are a lot of them!). Additionally, a half hour of this training will be devoted to a workshop where we'll provide questions to answer using queries, so come prepared to build some beginner-friendly queries! Our target audience includes: (1) Anyone trying to convert from Local into Configurable Joins queries, (2) Those new to querying in Slate entirely, and (3) Slate captains and leaders who want to learn ways to teach queries to their staff. Registration is $100 per person, with payment due at time of registration. This event is nonrefundable, but registrations can be transferred to another member of your team and/or credited to a future session.
Date: Wednesday, May 13, 2026 Time: 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm Eastern Time Location: Virtual Level: Beginner to Intermediate
In this second part of a four-part series in 2026, we'll use Queries 201 to enter into Slate as relational database. After reviewing the overall structure of Slate behind-the-scenes, we'll look to uncover all the essentials about extended filters and exports in queries. An intentional and slower-paced section on introducing subqueries versus main-level joins will take up a good portion of our agenda (think: What is the difference? When do I use one or the other?). Like our 101 session, a half hour of this training will be devoted to a workshop where we'll provide questions to answer using queries, so come prepared to build some queries! Time permitting, we will explore additional categories and bases. Our target audience includes: (1) Those who attended the 101 session in March, (2) Anyone with a basic understanding of configurable joins queries in Slate who wants to expand their knowledge, and (3) Slate captains and leaders who want to learn ways to teach queries to their staff. Registration is $100 per person, with payment due at time of registration. This event is nonrefundable, but registrations can be transferred to another member of your team and/or credited to a future session.
Date: Thursday, August 6, 2026 Time: 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm Eastern Time Location: Virtual Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Join us for our third session in this four-part series as we cross over officially into intermediate and advanced querying. While we'll start with some review on subqueries versus main-level joins, our heavy focus today will be on aggregates and outputs. In particular, we'll discuss one of the most-requested items from Carnegie's 2025 training events: dictionaries. Time permitting and depending on Summit announcements, we'll plan to devote some time to new AI query tools. Like our previous 2026 Tiny Trainings, a half hour of this training will be devoted to a workshop where we'll provide questions to answer using queries, so come prepared to build some queries! Our target audience includes: (1) Those who attended the 201 session in May, (2) Anyone with a solid understanding of configurable joins queries in Slate who wants to explore aggregates and outputs, and (3) Slate captains and leaders who want to learn ways to teach queries to their staff. Registration is $100 per person, with payment due at time of registration. This event is nonrefundable, but registrations can be transferred to another member of your team and/or credited to a future session.
Date: Wednesday, November 4, 2026 Time: 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm Eastern Time Location: Virtual Level: Intermediate to Advanced
By popular demand, we are proud to offer this truly advanced queries session as the capstone in our four-part series. Our agenda will focus on a few core concepts: independent subqueries, using SQL responsibly in Slate, data exports in queries, and other advanced use cases. Time permitting, we will also discuss the intersection of advanced queries and portals. Like our previous 2026 Tiny Trainings, a portion of this training will be devoted to a workshop where we'll provide questions to answer using queries, so come prepared to build some advanced queries! Our target audience includes: (1) Those who attended the 301 session in August, (2) Anyone yearning to go deeper and more advanced than traditional queries trainings cover, and (3) Slate captains and leaders are trying to solve very complex problems. Registration is $100 per person, with payment due at time of registration. This event is nonrefundable, but registrations can be transferred to another member of your team and/or credited to a future session.
[Carnegie Slate Camp] was a great experience and I learned a lot that will help us out here at PSU...Those two days with Carnegie alone were worth my trip to Nashville!
— Eddy Lentz Associate Director of Graduate Admissions Enrollment Technology, Portland State University
I've been in Slate for 11+ years now. I attended [another vendor's] CJs session a few years ago and poked around in their Slate content on the topic, but much of it did not stick. Your session was great and clear!
— Kristen Minnocci Associate Director of Admissions Communications, Quinnipiac University
I got a lot out of this [Tiny Training] and it certainly helped me as a newbie in Slate to feel more confident in my work. The pace of the class was great and the examples used were relevant and over all I really enjoyed the session...
— Kelsey Dobradi-Zembek Graduate Admissions Recruiter, SUNY University at Binghamton
[Carnegie Slate Camp] was one of the best...the presenter was lively and engaging and the content of the session was first-rate. Now that I am back, I implemented one of the items spoken of already.
— Michael White Enrollment Management & Admission Technology Coordinator, Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania
