Interested in purchasing a Tiny Training recording?

Thank you for your interest in our previous Tiny Trainings. Recordings are available for $100 each. We look forward to welcoming you to a future session, too.

    What recordings are currently available?

Alien vs. Editor: Demystifying Slate's Branding Editor | Intermediate to Advanced | We have heard from countless institutions that the Slate Branding Editor has potential to be such a useful tool. But with some functionality issues and a complex interface, it can be intimidating to begin working with the editor. Our Slate Front End Team will take you through the ins and outs of Branding Editor, including best practices, workarounds for common issues, and tips for coding in Slate. After the session, you'll feel less alien to the editor.

In the Page of Enlightenment: Slate-Hosted Application Pages | Intermediate to Advanced | What comes after you've settled into Slate? Optimization, of course! We can think of no better way to start customizing than via Slate-Hosted Application Pages. Ideal for streamlining your processes, Slate-Hosted Application Pages offer the ability to customize app pages more than you ever could before with standard pages. Let our Slate Implementations Team be your guide through custom fields and conditional logic (now on application pages like personal background and academic history) that was never really possible before.

Less is (Sopho)more: Slate Communications for Underclassmen | Beginner to Intermediate | Put yourself in the shoes of a fifteen-year-old today. There is infinite content to consume. So will the Deliver template you've been using for seven years catch their eye? Unlikely. In this session, we'll share current, data-driven best practices for using Deliver to effectively market to your sophomore and junior students.

Making Accessibility Accessible | Beginner to Intermediate | The philosophy is simple: A Slate database and website created with people with disabilities in mind will benefit everyone. Join us as we embark on a journey of best practices to make sure your website, portals, and Deliver mailings are meeting (and exceeding) current WCAG standards. We promise that anyone can do this work and that you will leave with more than a dozen concrete takeaways.

When CSS Means Simply Coding in Slate
    | Intermediate to Advanced | We'll do a deep dive into something tangential to many aspects of Slate: coding in CSS. Learn ways to maximize your coding skills within your database in portals and more. We'll share both general CSS tips as well as work directly in Slate to put these skills into practice. Coding background is certainly helpful, but anyone with a little curiosity and desire to learn is welcome!

The Entity to Dataset Connection | Intermediate to Advanced | Join us for a training on how datasets and entities can work in tandem. We’ll be using the example of a course catalog and student schedule to demonstrate the power of that connection. The primary takeaways will be what a related dataset row is, how an entity that is connected to a dataset allows for robust reporting, and where student records fall in the equation. We’ll be making the dataset and the entity together so no need to have worked with either tool before. The lessons learned from this training can be applied to Scholarships, Internal Help Requests, Early Alerts, Case Management, and more! We’ll call out the applicable transferences to these other use-cases throughout the training.

Data Roots: Origin Sources That Grow the Student Story | Beginner to Intermediate | Every student journey begins with a first point of contact, and in this session, we’ll explore how origin sources and origin groups help capture, organize, and enhance those stories. You’ll learn what origin sources and groups are, understand their purpose, and see how they fit into Slate's ecosystem. We’ll also cover why they’re crucial, revealing how proper setup impacts data integrity, reporting accuracy, and personalized communication. Finally, we’ll guide you through step-by-step best practices for configuring and managing origin sources and groups effectively. Join us to uncover how these tools can help your institution better track and tell the student story!

Portal Perspectives: Leveraging Datasets for Impactful Portals | Intermediate to Advanced | Join us for a session focused on utilizing datasets as the foundation for creating customized portal experiences. During this training, we will delve into how datasets can inform both portal design and functionality and explore specific use cases for audiences such as high school counselors, current students, and faculty. An understanding of portals and liquid markup is beneficial, but anyone with an interest in portals is welcome to attend!

Channel Surfing: Optimizing Multichannel Communication in Deliver | Beginner to Intermediate | Everyone knows that Deliver does email, but there are many more capabilities for communicating in Slate. Whether you haven't yet dipped your toes into texting or print pieces, or are looking for a primer on best practices for Slate Voice, we have you covered. All experience levels are welcome, though much of our content will fit the introductory lens.

Setting the Table(s): Configurable Joins 101 | Beginner to Intermediate | Join us for a beginner-friendly session on querying within Slate, where we’ll break down the fundamentals of creating and using queries—one of the most powerful and essential tools in Slate. We understand that for many, diving into queries can feel overwhelming, with terms like configurable joins, subqueries, and concatenate being completely unfamiliar. In this session, we’ll start with the basics: explaining the structure of queries and the underlying table structure, before exploring practical use cases within subqueries. Designed especially for those new to configurable joins or querying in Slate, this session is also open to anyone curious about Slate’s query tool!

Going Beyond "Grad" Hoc Mailings: Building Your Full Graduate Flow | Beginner to Intermediate | Join us to discuss all things grad application generation campaigns! We will address topics such as: deliver campaign structure, rules and populations, custom email content, and how to build your Slate instance to allow you to work smarter, not harder. All from the perspective of how to drive more applications for your graduate programs.
